National Irish Bank Community Grants of between euro 500 and euro 5,000 are awarded once a year in each of National Irish Bank’s five regions to support local community projects and community projects and organisations around Ireland.
How to Apply for a Grant
Collect an application form from your local National Irish Bank branch, complete and return it to your branch, or download a form (link below), print off and once completed, return it to your branch. Please return your completed form to your local branch or email it to communitygrants@nationalirishbank.ie
Deadline: 30 September 2008
Anyone may apply for support from National Irish Bank Community Grants, with the exception of individuals and businesses.
What initiatives and projects qualify for support?
- It must promote educational projects, training or knowledge based activities in your community
- It must be open to the general public – i.e. it must benefit the local community in general
- It must benefit the local community. By this, we mean that it must be of local origin and must be carried out locally. It is, therefore, not possible to obtain support for travel outside of the region. However, it is possible to apply for support to fund visits from visiting lecturers, trainers etc
- Support will not be awarded to projects with a religious or political purpose nor for the general operating costs of associations, sports clubs, etc.

The Wheel and Boardmatch Ireland are offering this workshop and training programme which is designed to support directors, board members, senior administrators, trustees and managers of charities as they apply the key principles of good governance.
This exciting event will help you and your organisation to:
- develop an understanding of the functions that a governing body performs
- develop and understanding of the governing body roles, responsibilities and potential liabilities
- reflect on the development and improvement of practice of governance
- access further information and resources.

Bóthar will host the third Common Ground exhibition, workshop and public lecture series on 15, 16 and 17 October 2008 (afternoon only on 15 and morning only on 17), in the Silver Springs Conference Centre, Silver Springs Hotel, Tivoli, Cork.
Common Ground aims to bring together a wide variety of organisations to provide a strong stimulus to members of the public, the youth sector and second-level school-goers to engage with global issues. The NGO sector, missionary organisations of the various churches, youth organisations, third-level institutions offering courses in Development Studies, as well as community-based organisations, will be represented. The event will also afford an opportunity for dialogue and networking between these organisations. This year’s speakers at the Thursday evening sessions: Liz O’Donnell; Fr. Peter McVerry, S.J; Patrick Nalere (Uganda); Chair: Mary Crilly.

Midleton Food & Drink Festival is bringing together first-class producers & suppliers of excellent food and drink products to showcase and celebrate the best of Irish produce from South & East Cork. The Festival will present an open air food market with over thirty stalls, wine talk & tasting, a waiters’ race, food composting, local crafts, exhibitions of photography and paintings, as well as street music, puppet show, story-telling and entertainment for all the family. Some of the new features to the festival include the screening of the Foodie Film “Chocolat” on Friday the 12th and we are also hosting two exciting cookery demonstrations on Saturday the 13th in our demonstration marquee:

Meeting at Passage West Playground
A Walking Tour with Natural Historian Jim Wilson will take place from Passage West to Hop Island on Sunday 14th September 2:00pm - Meet at Passage West Playground. Cork Greenmap is producing a guide, which maps a walking route along the shore of Cork Harbour from Hop Island to Monkstown Creek.
A myriad of history, wildlife and natural beauty is waiting to be experienced from Hop Island to Monkstown Creek in Ireland’s largest natural harbour. As part of the Cork Harbour Project - Beyond the Myths 2008, Cork Greenmap is producing a walking guide of this beautiful stretch of the harbour. Home to industry and terminus to the first railway line in Cork, it was also a favored holiday destination during the 19th Century. It continues to be much enjoyed by walkers, cyclists, sailors and fishermen who appreciate its natural setting and character. The walk passes through Passage West on its way to Monkstown. Inhabited by local and migrant birds the ecology of the area is of international importance. The guide will provide information for you as you take to the trail.
