Walk in the Galtees, in aid of the Free the Old Head of Kinsale campaign

Posted by Cork Greenmap on January 4th, 2008.

Following on the excellent time we had at last year’s walk, join us on
Sunday 20th January for a hill-walk in the Galtee mountains. There will be options to climb to the top of Galtymore (919m): the
tallest peak in Co Tipperary. Alternatively you can climb up to
Galtybeg (a shorter walk) or do a walk up the Black Road (shorter
still)

For any of the options, please wear walking boots, and bring
waterproof clothes, a hat, gloves, food and water.

You can collect sponsor forms at the CAZ, or if you haven’t managed to
do so, thow a donation our way at the end of the walk.

All funds go towards a court case that is underway to reinstate public
access to the Old Head of Kinsale. We still have at least a further
€2500 we need to raise to urgently cover survey costs as part of the
court case.

There will also be the inevitable hot whisky in the pub afterwards.

The court case is The Attorney General - v - Ashbourne Holdings Ltd.

Car pool 9.30am at the Opera House.

The walk to the top of Galtymore & down will take 4-5 hours. We will
make the walk along the track much shorter, the shortness of which
will be based on people’s wishes on the day. The drive each way is
roughly 1.5
hours (it’s beteen Mitcheltown & Caher)
